The final competition of The 4th Flying Disc Dog Open© season took place in Phoenix, AZ on November 7th 1998. A big doggone thank you to the City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation for allowing the Open at Encanto Park. Their
support, along with all our sponsors, made this a fun and very exciting event for all that attended. Thanks to head judge Jeff Hoot who did a great job. 19 competitors came to
the park and the fur began to fly. The weather was doggone perfect with little to no wind and temperatures in the mid 70's. With such a fine day, the competitors and judging
staff decided to go two rounds in each event. The Obstacle Course provided some of the most dramatic action of the day and ultimately became the deciding factor between first and second
place for the Pro's. Mark Jennings & Skyler scored more points in both rounds of the Distance and Freestyle and were tied at the end of the first round of the Obstacle Course. Team Skyler just couldn't connect during the second round and scored in
only three of the six stations which left an opening for Bill Keller & Ballistic Biggs to jump into first place. Congratulations go to Team Rocket Parts; Bill Keller & Ballistic Biggs who
took first place in the Pro division with 105 points. They scored at all six stations in both rounds earning an impressive 16 points (19 points possible) on their second round. The
Distance Throw was the deciding factor in the amateur round. Leading the division into the final round of distance, Tom Swick & Shadow connected a thirty-yard catch on their first throw. Instead
of stopping and taking the three points, they elected to continue and missed the next two attempts for no points, leaving him one point behind Bob Holmes & Foster. Congratulations Bob Holmes & Foster
returning amateur champions. Thanks to these fine companies for supplying product for the Pro & Amateur prize bags; Air Major Travel Duffel, Bolle',
Cool Paws, Happy Dog Toys, IAMS Pet Foods, Mendota Products, Pet Goods, PowerBone and Zip Specialty. And finally, a big doggone thank you to all our disc dog competitors and judging staff.
