GoldenState Disc Dog Championship & Crusty Classic This weekend was dedicated to the memory of
Steve "Crusty" Walsh. Steve was an original
D2ISC club member who passed away last year from cancer. The event was hosted by both the D2ISC and NCD2C Clubs. It featured two days of competition; the FDDO West Leg on Saturday Oct.
19th and the Disc Dog Extreme Games on Sunday Oct. 20th. Held in Bakersfield, California at SilvercreekPark, Saturday's event was held in conjunction with a city sponsored Pet Walk and Fair.
The weather and field were perfect for two days of
disc doggin! Congratulations go out to Tom Clements & Taylor who have now won the West Leg for three consecutive years. The Golden State Disc Dog
Championship Title was awarded to Alan Thibido & Jasper who had a great weekend of competition and beat out all the teams for the overall title. Alan
& Jasper had the high score of the day on the OC with 13 points. 3rd place finishers Sung Hyun and his fantastic dog Tag put on a real Freestyle clinic sharing the highest score of the day with Chris Perondi.
Unfortunately for Chris and Soring Sierra they found
out just how unforgiving the Distance event can be, missing their third and final toss resulting in zero points. A few other top teams also succumbed to the Distance
event pressure cooker of "last throw counts". This circumstance completely changed the outcome of the event and was closely watched by all in
attendance. Other notable performances came from Bruce Brantley & Casey who had the longest toss of the day hitting zone 6 scoring 12 points and
Bradley Sattler & Storm the youngest Pro competitors who put up some great numbers despite failng to score in the distance round. Thanks to all who
came out and participated and all the volunteers who helped make the day a great one. Steve Malmlov, Jill Teer, Becky Wong, Jaeleen Sattler, Tom Clements, Mary Clements, Mark Wood, and Eric Holt.
