K9 Quarterback Rules of Play

  • 2 minute time limit on the field
  • 3 drops/ob’s play ends
  • Out of bounds is considered a drop
  • Score by advancing your dog across the goal lines with a catch
  • Tosses must be made from behind goal lines after a score or at the spot of a catch between goal lines
  • 3 points per goal line crossed
  • 1 point per drop saved
  • -1 point(s) per drop/ob’s used
  • -1 point(s) per foot fault incurred
  • 2 discs only allowed during play
  • Dog & Trainer must start behind center goal line at beginning of play
  • Dog can be anywhere on field after start of play
  • Tosses do not have to be goal line to goal line
  • Trainers must continue advancing their dog back and forth across the field in a forward direction
  • Scoring can be continuous across two goal lines
  • No reversing direction from the center goal line
  • Regulation field size is 20 yards wide by 40 yards long

K9 Quarterback Single Play Progression

  • A team must start behind the center goal line with a choice of initial direction
  • Play starts with a call of ready, set, go
  • Play moves back and forth across the field in a forward progression
  • Play ends at 120 seconds (2 minutes) or 3 Drops/OB’s whichever comes first
  • Goal points are added up along with saved drops
  • Drops/OB’s used are subtracted from score
  • No substitutions of discs or dogs during play

K9 Quarterback Team Relay Play Progression

  • A relay team will consist of 3 trainers & their dogs
  • Each team will be in position behind a goal line
  • Trainer #1 will start behind the center goal line with a choice of initial direction
  • Trainer #1 must advance the dog and themselves across the goal line before Trainer #2 can start their relay.
  • Trainer #2 must advance the dog and themselves across the goal line before Trainer #3 can start their relay
  • Play progresses until the 2 minute time limit expires or 3 drops/ob’s occur

K9 Quarterback suggested Judging Positions

  • 2 referees (Referees will spot the catch between goal lines, call center goals, out of bounds and foot faults
  • 2 outside goal line judges (Goal line judges will call outside goal catches, foot faults and (false starts during team relays)
  • 1 score keeper
  • 1 official timer
