The final Flying Disc Dog Open event of the 1999 season attracted 19 Pro
Teams and 6 Amateur teams from 4 different states. The weather was picture perfect with little to no wind and the field conditions were fantastic. Head Judge, Lawrence Frederick, held a
players meeting at the start of the competition to explain to the teams what to expect from the judges during the competition and to answer any questions regarding the format and the
rules. The Pasadena competition began with the Distance event then the Obstacle Course and finally Freestyle. Surprisingly, two Pro’s who placed in the top ten had zero points in the Distance
event. Pro Chris Perondi sponsored by Bark Magazine (right) was able to over come this disaster with a strong first time performance on the obstacle course (15 points) and an impressive Freestyle round
(33 points) to place in the money taking third. Congratulations and $500.00 goes to Champions Mark Jennings & Skyler (left) of Houston, Texas who put on a dazzling display of disc and dog skills and held out to win by one
point over “98” FDDO/PHX Champions Bill Keller and Biggs who put on their own disc skills clinic throughout the events. Both of these top two placing teams represented
the DDQ who also sponsored in two other trainers. Other notable performances
came from Wil West & Tawny seen here on the Obstacle Course scoring 11 Points. Lana Anderson put on a “thriller” of a freestyle routine while rising from the dead to
play with her dog Syd-sational and took 12th place in the Pro Division. Christi Goodman & Wally came riding down from the Colorado Mountains looking to place
well and they did taking 5th in the Pro Division. When the FDDO went national two years ago, one of the
main goals has been to listen to what the trainers think about this event and its format and to incorporate these ideas into building an exciting Pro Series for the future. This year saw the most pro teams attending ever and
was a real learning experience for all. The competition format is evolving because of the valuable input from all the trainers who participated this year. Thank you
for your time, consideration and honesty. Another big doggone thank you to all the companies who donated product and prize money and helped make this the best and
most rewarding year ever.
